Around the world, local and national governments have long used information posters as a key way to get road users to do everything from improve their driving habits to reduce their petrol consumption.   

The brief selection of posters featured here were all produced by various US government departments around the middle of the 20th Century and clearly show the issues which were of greatest importance at the time.
